Alexey Mikhailov made his comment for Kommersant FM

Date: 21 July 2016

Alexey Mikhailov, the Head of Patent Department of PATENTUS has commented on the increase in number of patent applications in Russia in response to a question from "Kommersant FM":

Such dynamics can be possibly explained by the fact that the majority of patent applications are filed by foreign companies. It is the opinion of the Head of Patent Department of PATENTUS Alexey Mikhailov.

"If there is no organic economic growth any increase in number of patent applications is a strange phenomenon. This seemed quite possible that such enormous number of applications comes from foreign applicants. In Russia approximately a half of all applications for inventions are filed by foreign applicants. This is done in order to have a legal monopoly in a particular country for the production, sale and marketing of some product. When we are speaking of pharmaceutics, pharmacists usually cover by their patents many countries at once, including Russia, as one of the most interesting pharmaceutical markets", said Mikhailov.
