ZHONGHANG ELECTRONIC MEASURING INSTRUMENTS CO., LTD., a Chinese company, celebrates its success in protection of its trademark Zemic for electric resistance strain gauges.
In 2020, Russian companies Spetsstroyservice LLC and TD Hydrotorg LLC won a strain gauge procurement tender and supplied strain gauges labeled with the Zemic trademark without having obtained prior consent from the Chinese owner of the trademark.
Therefore the Chinese company represented by the team of lawyers headed by Maxim Volkov in cooperation with lawyer Diana Shaklina filed a claim for stopping the infringement and payment of compensation. The courts which examined the clime ruled to ban using the Zemic trademark by the said companies for strain gauges and ordered them to pay several million rubles in compensation for the infringement.
The court decision highlights the importance of protection of intellectual property and trademark rights and serious consequences of IP rights infringement.
