On April 17, at the Conference of Pravo.ru “Intellectual Property - 2025,” experts discussed the problems of IP regulation in foreign jurisdictions. Dmitry Markanov, Managing Partner of BFL|PATENTUS, told the audience about the registration and renewal of trademarks in unfriendly countries and BRICS.
“There was hope that trademark applications filed with WIPO after the adoption of the 14th package of EU sanctions would remain there in a “suspended state.” But a different practice has developed — we are receiving refusals on these applications.”
Dmitry made a small comparative analysis of countries where registration of trademarks from Russia is allowed. He noted that at the moment, the most accessible are BRICS and CIS countries, and China and the UAE are the most popular countries where trademarks are registered. Using their example, there were revealed various features that should be taken into account before filing an application.
